Tourism: no visa needed in advance
US citizens receive a free visa on arrival for short stays (typically up to 30 days, extendable). Your passport should be valid for at least six months. No application or fee before you fly.
What the visa on arrival does NOT cover
- Working or earning an income in the UAE
- Living long-term or signing a residential tenancy
- Opening most resident bank accounts
- Sponsoring family members
To live or work: the residence visa
Staying long-term requires a UAE residence visa, which comes with an Emirates ID. The common routes are: an investor/partner visa via your own company, an employment visa, the Golden Visa (10 years), or family sponsorship.
The fastest route for founders: set up a company
Forming a Free Zone or Mainland company grants an investor visa + Emirates ID and can be done largely remotely — from AED 10,800 including one visa. See company formation in Dubai and setting up from the US.
What about the Golden Visa?
The 10-year Golden Visa is available to qualifying investors, entrepreneurs, and talent. We assess eligibility and handle the application — see PRO & immigration services.
