Dubai isn't cheap — but with 0% personal income tax, your take-home stretches a lot further than in most US cities. Here's a realistic 2026 monthly budget.

Housing — your biggest cost
Rent dominates any Dubai budget. As a rough 2026 guide: a studio in areas like JVC or Sports City runs AED 4,000–6,000/month, a one-bed in Marina or Downtown AED 7,000–12,000, and family villas considerably more. Many landlords still prefer rent paid in 1–4 cheques a year, so budget for a chunky upfront.
Utilities, internet & mobile
- DEWA (electricity + water): AED 400–900/month — higher in summer when AC runs constantly.
- Home internet: AED 350–500/month.
- Mobile plan: AED 100–200/month.
Getting around
The Metro is clean, cheap, and expanding; Careem and Uber are affordable; and petrol is inexpensive if you drive. A car is optional in central areas but common for families. Factor in Salik (road tolls) if you commute.
Food, groceries & lifestyle
Groceries for one person land around AED 1,000–1,800/month. Dining out spans cheap to extravagant. Alcohol is pricey and sold in licensed venues. Gyms, beaches, and brunches are the main lifestyle spends.
Schooling & healthcare (the family multipliers)
International school fees range AED 25,000–95,000 per child per year — the single biggest variable for families. Health insurance is mandatory; employers often cover it, and private plans run AED 600–2,500/month.
Sample monthly budgets (2026)
- Single professional: AED 9,000–14,000
- Couple: AED 14,000–22,000
- Family of four: AED 28,000–45,000+ (driven by rent + school fees)
Moving to work for yourself?
If you're relocating to run your own business, you'll want a company and residence visa — the route to living here legally. Setups start from AED 10,800 including one visa. See how to set up a company in Dubai from the US and the real cost of setup.
